I'm going to try to be calm, rational and non accusatory about this. But can you see how this comment might present a problem? After everything that has happened the last few days, can you see why comments like this might drive people who like both Jezebel and Cars away from Oppo? Why not just say "Someone responded to a few day old post of mine and really riled me up."? You express the same frustration without simultaneously subtly slamming an entire community. I don't know what the comment said, for all I know you have every right to be pissed, but if we all could choose our words a little more carefully I think it would make things a lot better around here.

I struggle to find respect for one who went out of there way to call me both a racist and a sexist. The person had never posted on Oppo, the person came from Jezebel, I dont know what else to call that person.

Why not just say it exactly like I said it? Or call them an asshole, or a jackwagon, or a douchbag? By labeling them a "Jezzie" you tear down an entire community. If some jackwagon who regularly frequents Oppo went over to Jezebel and started to spew actualy racist, sexist shit would you want that person to be branded an Opponaut, bringing down our entire community?

The guy came on pretty harsh towards him. I wouldn't have termed him what Dwhite did but I think expecting him to be thrilled about it is probably asking too much.

Where did I ask him to be thrilled? I have no idea what the conversation was about. But why not just call the person an asshole, jackwagon, douchebag or something similar? By using "Jezzie" it passes judgement on an entire community and annoys those who like both Oppo and Jezebel, like myself, Kat and probably others? Again, I have no idea what was said in the exchange, I'll assume DWhite has every reason to be pissed, but I'm trying to end or minimize the Oppo/Jezebel antagonism that I think is becoming poisonous around here, and I'm (hopefully) trying to come across as reasonable and non-judgmental. Sometimes small changes in how we express things can make a big difference.

Fair enough. I enjoy both Oppo and GT myself. I think if somebody gets randomly targeted without any prior exchange and they clearly come from another part of Gawker Media people are going to associate the person with that part of Gawker Media however. They don't have much else to go on. People scramble for context.

I understand why he used the word Jezzie, I'm just asking him not to in the future, or to think about why he's using the words that he's using, and the subtle implications that come from it.

Its comments like that that make it hard for me to decide if the term "Jezzie" is derogatory or complimentary. I guess its like "goy" which can be both depending on its context.

On Oppo you pretty much have a 100% chance it's meant as derogatory, especially in this context.
